In this 1,2,3 – A,B,C section we update you with several interesting pieces of KTB news as well as event notifications.

ONE: The KTB will hold a tissue collection event in Indianapolis on Saturday, January 21st, 2017, at the IU Simon Cancer Center Women’s Clinic, 1030 W. Michigan St., 2nd floor. Registration for donation appointments and volunteer slots will be available after November 28th on our website.

TWO: Remember that any studies that have been published, that involved the use of KTB tissue samples, are aviable on our website. Even thought the sciency words can be sometime be off-putting for lay people, it can be really wonderful to go ahead, jump in, and wade through the language so you can see the exciting things researchers do with our tissue. THREE: In the spring, some of the KTB staff with travel to Phoenix, AZ for a site visit. We will meet with a potential medical partner there and check out the “lay of the land” for a potential event in 2018. A collection event in Phoenix would focus on collecting tissue from minorities, particularly Hispanic and Native American women, a group with a currently very low sample presence in our database.

A… is for ANNIVERSARY… The Komen Tissue Bank will spend all of 2017 celebrating our 10th anniversary!  We will have a celebration gathering to which all are invited – and we mean ALL!  Past and present volunteers, tissue donors, vendors, supporters, researchers, staff, and friends are invitied to join us for an event in the spring or summer of 2017; the exact date and location are yet to be determined. People who volunteer and donate at events in 2017 will receive limited, special edition 10-year Tshirts, and we will launch a “give multiples of $10 for 10 years” fundraising campaign. Don’t miss the fun!

B… is for… the BIG APPLE… We are so excited to announce that the KTB is bound for New York City to host a tissue collection event in late fall of 2017. We will be partnering with Columbia University and the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, as well as Komen Greater NYC, to hold an event focused on recruiting women of minority racial and ethnic groups to donate healthy breast tissue.

C… is for CONGRATULATIONS… our medical and community partners in Detroit really worked hard to host our collection event held there this past September, and it showed! Kudos and a hearty “thank you” go out to Karmanos Cancer Institute, Komen Detroit, and all of our Detroit community partners, donors, and volunteers. Well done!
